Preparing To Move
Congratulations, all deadlines have been met, inspection repairs have been complete, the buyer has received final loan approval, and now you're on the home stretch. The last few days can be hectic if you are not prepared and organized. Prior to closing you will want to:
- Contact utility companies to transfer or cancel services. You don't need to transfer your water service as the title company is responsible for transferring the water service.
- Schedule your move; moving truck and/or movers.
- Start Packing
- Schedule cleaners or time to clean the home after you have moved out. It's important to leave your home in the condition you want to receive your new home.
- Gather all keys and garage remotes to bring to closing for the buyers.
Closing will occur at the title company and will usually take about 60 - 90 minutes. You should review the settlement statement with your real estate agent a few days prior to closing. Knowing and understanding the final numbers before closing will eliminate most of the stress of closing. In Colorado, the buyer and seller typically close at the same time and in the same conference room. Once all documents are signed by all parties and funds have been received by the title company, the title closer will issue you a check and the keys to the buyer.
