Louisville, CO Community Information
Louisville, originally a coal mining town, is 21 miles northwest of Denver and 10 miles southeast of Boulder. Louisville has a population of about 19,000, and is located on US-36, giving commuters quick access to Boulder and the Denver metro area. Homes range from around $162,000 for a one bedroom, one bathroom starter home to $2 million for upscale homes.
Louisville’s historic downtown area boasts a variety of one-of-the-kind shops like Vie Luxe Boutique, Grandrabbit’s Toy Shoppe, and The Fuzzy Antler. Diners can find equally unique establishments including the Blue Parrot, Maharaja Cuisine of India, Empire Lounge & Restaurant, and the Old Louisville Inn. The Huckleberry, one of the downtown restaurants, is in an historic building dating back to 1894. Originally the town's post office, the Huckleberry building also served as a bank, a pharmacy, and two different restaurants.
Those looking for cultural activities in Louisville can go to the Louisville Historical Museum. Comprised of four buildings constructed between 1904 and 1908, two of the buildings are open to the public. The smaller building, the Tomeo House, gives visitors an idea of an early 1900’s coal miner’s house. Louisville protects about 1,700 acres of open space. Steinbaugh Pavilion in Historic Downtown Louisville is home to WinterSkate, an old-fashioned outdoor ice skating rink. Both Harper Lake and Lake Park provide opportunities for fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Louisville also has two dog parks. Coal Creek Golf Course provides an opportunity for the golfer to improve his swing while enjoying a phenomenal view of the Rocky Mountains.
Louisville is in the Boulder Valley Re 2 School District. Louisville Elementary (PK-5) received a Great Schools Rating of 10 out of 10.
Louisville is home to Avista Adventist Hospital and Centennial Peaks Hospital, a psychiatric facility.
