Golden, one of the first municipally governed cities in Colorado with one of the oldest continuously functioning governments in the state, maintains its early architecture in the historic downtown area. You can shop in the quaint shops downtown or at the nearby Colorado Mills Mall. You can enjoy a variety of cuisines from Mediterranean at the Ali Baba Grill, to upscale American at the Briarwood Grill, and all-American with a Colorado twist at the Buffalo Rose Saloon.
Finding something to entertain the whole family is easy in Golden. The Splash water park is sure to be a hit with the kids in the heat of the summer. Heritage Square offers amusement park rides, an exciting ½ mile alpine slide, theatre, and shops. Jeffco Public Schools manage the Golden area schools. The oldest public higher education facility in Colorado, the Colorado School of Mines, is in Golden. Mines is considered one of the finest engineering universities in the nation.
