Founded in the 1870s by Reverend Richard Van Valkenburg, Erie now straddles both Boulder and Weld counties and has a population of about 17,000. The Town of Erie
Shoppers will find plenty of options in the nearby suburbs of Westminster, Thornton, or Boulder. Diners can choose American fare at Rose Café, Asian fare at Lui’s Wok and Grill, or spice it up at Mexican Express Grille.
Erie provides a variety of community events throughout the year. May is the Erie Town Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival. In June residents and visitors bring their pets to join in the fun at Bark in the Park and the World’s Shortest Pet Parade. Concerts in the Park run July through August, and Trunk or Treat provides entertainment for the kids in late October. A local non-profit, The Arts Coalition of Erie, provides visual and performing arts programs.
Erie sits on the plains, but is just a short drive to the nearby Rocky Mountains. The town of Erie maintains 87 acres of developed parks and 17 miles of trails, as well as over 200 acres of open space. The Ballpark at Erie has four lighted ball fields. Erie also boasts a 63,000 square foot recreation center.
For golf enthusiasts, Erie has the Colorado National Golf Club, home to the University of Colorado's men’s and women’s golf teams, and one of the premier golf course on the front range.
Erie schools are managed by either the St Vrain Valley School District or Boulder Valley School District.
The North Campus of Children’s Hospital is in the Erie area. Erie Municipal Airport provides services to private-plane commuters.
