Founded in the 1870s by Reverend Richard Van Valkenburg, Erie now straddles both Boulder and Weld counties and has a population of about 17,000. The Town of Erie

Erie provides a variety of community events throughout the year. May is the Erie Town Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival. For golf enthusiasts, Erie has the Colorado National Golf Club, home to the University of Colorado's men’s and women’s golf teams, and one of the premier golf course on the front range.
Erie schools are managed by either the St Vrain Valley School District or Boulder Valley School District.
The North Campus of Children’s Hospital is in the Erie area. Erie Municipal Airport provides services to private-plane commuters.
