Cabela's coming to Thornton

The City of Thornton is pleased to announce that Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will be building a new 90,000 square foot store in Thornton. The new Cabela’s will be built at a new development at the southeast corner of 144th Avenue and I-25 in Thornton’s North Washington corridor.  

 

“This is great news for the City of Thornton,” says Thornton Mayor Heidi Williams. “City Council has wanted to bring jobs and development to this important corridor in Thornton for quite a while, and getting a great partner like Cabela’s to come in and be the first anchor store there is very gratifying. We feel like this gets the development of Thornton’s North Washington corridor started in the right direction.”

The new Cabela’s store is currently scheduled to open midyear of 2013. Cabela’s will be part of the new 63-acre retail development recently approved by Thornton City Council. The new development is being constructed by Thornton Development, LLC, an affiliate of THF Development.  “It’s an incredible opportunity to bring this icon retail concept to the market.  With Cabela’s leading the way at the center, we anticipate great energy and market anticipation,” says project manager, Karen Blumenstein. The site is expected to include the 90,000 square foot Cabela’s store and 290,000 square feet of additional retail and hospitality businesses. Cabela’s is also building a new store in Lone Tree.

“Because of the longstanding loyalty of our customers in the Centennial State, the abundance of outdoor opportunities across the region and Denver’s proximity to Cabela’s headquarters, it’s the perfect situation to open two stores,” says Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner. “This is the first time we’ve simultaneously announced two stores in the same metropolitan area, so that says a lot about how we feel about the Denver area. It’s a landmark day.”

The City of Thornton, Cabela’s and THF Development will hold a groundbreaking ceremony sometime late summer. Invitations and a media advisory will be sent out when the date and time are set.
